This was in insignificant side room off the main paint shop area, with large double doors.

Male staff members could be observed periodically moving around this room, wearing the traditional white boiler suits ( albeit a little paint be-spattered ! ) along with face masks gloves and goggles shortly to re-emerge in less inhibiting attire.

The fact that there were a few steel lockers and a hand basin in this room was purely incidental to the main purpose of the place.

In this important room was situated a large stainless steel tank, about two meters long and nearly two meters deep. This large receptacle was kept full of paint stripper, hence the name of the room.

Metal products either painted or powder-coated, left totally immersed in this liquid for a few hours would readily shed their covering, which would slip to the bottom of the tank as a sticky sludge.

The cleaned metal product could then be hosed down and etched in a nearby tank of acidic solution, emerging ready for re painting or powder-coating.
